I haven't worked much on any project lately. My Civil War Bride groom block is slowly getting done. I have all of the leaves basted and am working on them. Several of the flowers and all of the buds are finished. I would have liked to have been done by now but I've had other quilting commitments I had to finish first.
I have most of the quilts I plan on starting in January prepped. I have the fabric for all but one of them. Each has it's own container with pattern and fabrics. My plan is to work on a different block each week, rotating the 4 quilts I'll be working on. Those 4 quilts are My Tweets, Botanika, Flower Pots and Civil War Bride. I'm putting Friends Of Baltimore on the back burner for awhile due to the intricacy of the pattern. I need more experience to tackle my Sue Garman patterns. I'm also holding off on my American Album quilt as the P3 design studio is making patterns of all the states which will result in 2 quilts. I want all the patterns first before I start on them. That quilt will be scrappy with cream and white background fabric.
The other thing I'm doing is taking an online machine quilting course. I'm never going to be a good hand quilter as I really don't like hand quilting and I don't want to send the quilts out to be quilted. I had to convince myself that it's okay to machine quilt a hand appliqued quilt. I need to become an expert machine quilter in order for my hand applique quilts to look nice.
The holidays are fast approaching and this is another year that I don't have any quilts made for family members. I will have one completed for my granddaughter early next year. It will be a good quilt to practice my machine quilting on.
My next post will have pictures of my groom block in progress. I really like my groom and think my bride will like him too!
Eileen, You are an amazing lady and quilter! I can't believe you will be tackling that many projects at once. I'm dying to see your groom block!
ReplyDeleteI see nothing wrong with machine quilting your hand appliqued quilts. It's much better to get them finished up than to have them be UFOs.
Thanks, Linda. I appreciate the comment. Sometimes I feel like I'm not getting anything done. Maybe that's why I want to work on 4 projects at once. I won't feel like I'm doing nothing if I see 4 quilts progressing.
